Selling Dreams: 30 Years in the Bridal Business
An Introduction to our Brides by Solo Wedding Blog for HELLO! by Mel Larcombe
Brides by Solo is a Local Institution in our Hometown of Newmarket, in Cambridgeshire.
A family run bridal boutique, Brides by Solo has been assisting brides – and selling dreams in the form of wedding dresses – in the Suffolk / Cambridgeshire area of the UK for the last 32 years.
Set up originally by my friend’s mother, Mrs Lister, in the 1980’s, this successful wedding dress shop has witnessed all trends in bridal fashion over the last three decades. From Princess Di’s crushed silk meringue dress, to the Duchess of Cambridge’s sleek and elegant vintage lace masterpiece… Brides by Solo has seen it all.
As my friend, Odette, and I were gallavanting around Asia in the 1990’s – becoming Hong Kong expats – Odette’s sister Emma took to the Brides by Solo helm. Emma successfully ran the bridal boutique for the next twenty years. Returning to roost in our old hometown, now it is Odette’s turn to continue the family tradition.
All Things Bridal, Blogging about Weddings and Selling Dreams
As a wedding blogger and sales advisor in Odette’s wedding dress shop, I can say, hand-on-heart, that Brides by Solo is a joyful and rewarding environment to work in. Working with a close-knit team of professional and dynamic women, our aim is to welcome every new bride – and take her on a journey to find the perfect dress.
Ultimately, at Brides by Solo, we are selling dreams. Whether our brides are barely out of their teens or advancing in years, we’ll have a sense of what they require. We have a wealth of bridal experience to draw on. And whether they are voluptuous in form or as skinny as a supermodel, we’re confident we can find ‘the dress’.
Every month there are untold stories to tell, as we delve behind the scenes of this busy bridal shop. There is endless material – literally and figuratively – to catch our eye. In our Brides by Solo Wedding Blog we intend to write about trends and fashion, while giving you top tips and insider knowledge from the bridal industry.
Then there’s designer collections, bride psychology and all those destination weddings to write about. (Read about Lois, her Maggie Sottero dress and her Santorini wedding here!) Such exciting things in store! We hope you will join us on our Brides by Solo journey into the world of weddings.
Can we sell you a dream, too?
