Sun kissed guest list

Summer weddings are simply divine. When my best friend tied the knot a couple of years ago on a Pacific island, I felt as if I were in a movie, with the setting sun lighting up the sky in shades of amber, gold, rose and violet.

Those unforgettable tropical shades have served as my summer makeup inspiration ever since. The airy and bright summer atmosphere calls for a look that’s light, pretty and classic.

Choose your colours

I like the look of well-defined brows, long sultry lashes, stained cheeks and either a bold lid or lip. Think Olivia Palermo’s classic look that goes from day to night.  For an ethereal look, play with a pink palette on your eyes, lips and cheeks. Love a splash of bold colour? Rim your lower lash line with a bright colour to contrast your black or brown eye shadow.

Avoid makeup meltdown

With the higher temperatures, the biggest concern of many women is how to keep their makeup from sliding off. To begin, use a makeup primer all over your face. This sets your makeup, protects your skin and also keeps the grease at bay.  An eye shadow primer should be applied over the entire lid all the way up to the brow to let the shadow really last.

Stick to lighter formulas and colours. Skip the heavy foundations and sun creams, since under the sun these thicker formulas dissolve and leave your face looking oily. Opt for a tinted moisturiser and light foundation and, if you have good skin, a spot concealer. Keep some oil-absorbent sheets handy to use as touch up throughout the event.

Cried and tested

The sight of your best friend walking down the aisle may leave you teary-eyed, so don’t forget to apply waterproof mascara! For long lashes, choose a lengthening and voluminising waterproof formula that won’t smudge from the tears.

Bronze Age

Nothing says sun-kissed goddess better than bronzed skin. Lightly sweep bronzer on your forehead, cheeks, tip of the nose and chin for a beautiful glow.

With these tried and tested tips, you’ll surely be the wedding guest of honour!
