Pronovias dressing wedding dreams
The Spanish city known for its creative and artistic tradition is home to the prestigious bridal wear brand that has been ‘dressing the dreams’ of brides worldwide. Indeed, you can’t be a bride-to-be in Spain without being familiar with Pronovias from Barcelona, known for its exquisite wedding dresses in sumptuous fabrics created with fine craftsmanship.
Recently, Louise Roe was spotted on the Hollywood red carpet wearing a one shoulder Pronovias creation in emerald green while Dutch model and Victoria’s Secret Angel Doutzen Kroes walked down the aisle in a Pronovias gown.
A history of great design
Pronovias’ earliest history traces itself back to 1922 in the Barcelona store El Suizo, which specialised in lace, embroidery and top quality silk. The company turned global in the 80s, when stores opened in Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Italy, as well as certain countries in Latin America. Big names in bridal design such as BadgleyMischka, Emmanuel Ungaro and Elie Saab have collaborated with the celebrated Catalan label.
Today, Pronovias has more than a hundred stores scattered all over the world and is celebrating 50 years of designing beautiful wedding dresses. Like a lacy dreamscape, the 2015 Pronovias fashion show was a virtual feminine fantasy wrapped in silk and Chantilly lace. Its standout piece was a lacy, racy creation that exposed bare shoulders and legs with just the right amount of skin peeking through the embroidery – a sexy number for a daring bride!
Ace of lace
It’s the fine details of Pronovias that I absolutely go gaga for. From their current 2014 Fashion by Pronovias collection, I love the ‘Pelicano’ V-neck dress which is designed with exquisite precious stone straps that merge into the back of the dress.
Because I’m a big fan of lace and embroidered motifs, I also love the ‘Urdaniz’. It has a flattering empire silhouette, scalloped neckline and a short lace bolero style jacket. From the Costura collection, the ‘Ocymar’ is another lacy masterpiece, with Chantilly lace and guipure appliqués.
Taking a peek into the 2015 Glamour pre-collection, I absolutely adore the ‘Blade’ and ‘Blayne’ tulle dresses which are two interpretations of lace and gemstone embroidery.
