Vera Wang: haute and cool wedding dresses

What do celebrity brides and top figure skaters have in common? They are both known to wear Vera Wang designs. The renowned American designer of Chinese descent, who was once a figure skater herself, is an icon in the fashion hall of fame. She was once a senior fashion editor for Vogue magazine and a design director for Ralph Lauren before she set out to design her own label which today is a fashion powerhouse with stores all over the world. And just like Ian Stuart and Pronovias, she is famous for her wedding dresses.

Celebrity clientele

Vera Wang is synonymous with haute couture wedding dresses. Her list of clients is long and star-studded with Hollywood celebrities, supermodels, Grammy awardees and public figures, including Uma Thurman, Victoria Beckham, Chrissy Teigen, Alicia Keys, Sharon Stone, Mariah Carey and Kate Hudson. She’s also dressed White House royalties Chelsea Clinton and Michelle Obama.

Vera Wang is also mentioned all over pop culture. One unforgettable Vera Wang Hollywood moment was the Sex in the City movie scene when Carrie was being photographed for Vogue magazine, wearing a stunning couture Vera Wang wedding gown.

Merging modern details with classic silhouettes

A master of fabric manipulation, Vera Wang has modernized traditional bridal designs by incorporating playful details with classic styles, thus creating innovative couture which is coveted by brides the world over.

Taking a peek into her Spring 2015 Collection, the ‘Odelle’ is trademark Vera Wang – a strapless silk crepe gown with a gorgeous cut out back and cowl detail (I’m a big fan of wedding gowns with attention-grabbing back views). Another favourite from the collection is ‘Olympia’, a strapless pleated A-line design with a ruched bodice and skirt in Chantilly lace. Brilliant.

Vera Wang’s Olympia

Of course, if you’re a bride on a budget and can’t afford the couture price tag, the White by Vera Wang line offers Vera’s designs that are less expensive.

Edgy, unique, timeless. A bride in a Vera Wang creation isn’t afraid to show off her inimitable side.
