Destination Weddings – Travelling in Style
Columnist Naomi Isted shares her thoughts on Virgin Atlantic’s services.
If you are planning a destination wedding, honeymoon or romantic couples only Caribbean getaway obviously the resort you choose is a massive decision but personally I think the way you get there is just as important, it can either make or break your trip. Who you fly with and how you get to your destination is just as important. If your planning a luxury romantic trip or winter sun getaway especially to somewhere longer haul like the Caribbean I suggest you consider your airline carefully and if you wouldn’t ordinarily consider premium or first class, a trip like this is worth waiting and saving for. So if you are planning a Destination Wedding – Travelling in Style, is a must. Columnist Naomi Isted shares her thoughts on Virgin Atlantic’s services.
When my husband and I recently found out the exciting news we were expecting our second child we realised that the honeymoon we missed was even more essential now than before and a gorgeous way to celebrate the news before life gets even busier. We decided to jet off to the idyllic Caribbean ideal of Antigua and stay at their stunning adult’s only resort Sandals Antigua to celebrate our Babymoon.
With endless Caribbean sunshine, sapphire blue seas and picture-perfect sands, you’d be forgiven for kicking back and relaxing on one of Antigua’s 365 beaches. That’s right, a beach for every day of the year! If that’s not your style don’t worry, a holiday in Antigua has so much more to offer.
The island’s a world-class sailing destination too, and for those who love diving there are loads of shipwrecks and reefs to explore. Head inland to see beautiful rainforests, or get your history fix at Horatio Nelson’s 18th century command base.
We choose to fly with Virgin and it sounds mad but thought we would fly Premium Economy there and First Class back, wow what a difference. When we arrived at Gatwick there were no crazy queues to check-in, then we went through the premium security check within five minutes no waiting and panicking about being late. We hung out in the lounge for breakfast, charged our phones had wifi and generally just relaxed. Then again boarding was a breeze and our premium economy seats where spacious and incredibly comfortable. The service was fantastic, the food was great and we started our week away the most relaxed I personally think two busy working parents could be. Paying that bit extra definitely makes a great deal of difference mainly with the airport experiences and foods and seating space.
So what do you get with Premium Economy?
They say it’s the little things that make the difference. Those extra few inches of space, a welcome glass of bubbly and after dinner liqueur, a proper workspace with in seat laptop power and a delicious meal served on china with stainless steel cutlery. They might be little things, but they make your flight even more enjoyable. Experience premium comfort in their big, wide, purple leather seats which are so comfortable. They have a 38in pitch, a headrest, leg rest and lumbar support.
With dedicated check in and bag drop, you experience a fast track airport experience. Plus you enjoy priority boarding and where possible, you and your bags will be one of the first off the plane on arrival. Your meal is served on china with stainless steel cutlery and a linen tablecloth, plus there’s a choice of wine and an after dinner liqueur to finish things off. The Virgin cabin crew will greet you with a complimentary drink and newspaper while you settle in and their attentive cabin crew are always close at hand to take care of you as you relax in the Premium Economy cabin. On night flights, you’ll be given a Premium Economy amenity kit in a smart wallet, containing all the essentials you’ll need for a great flight.
And what makes Upper Class Travel so special?
On our way back we travelled Upper Class and wow what a way to travel especially when your pregnant and want to put your feet up and sleep. Our steward was Richard and his attention to detail was fabulous.
Arrive in style. Their chauffeur transfer services make you feel like you’re on a luxury flight from the moment you leave for the airport. On arrival at the airport you breeze the dedicated check-in and, at Heathrow, through private security. Almost instantly, you find yourself in their stunning Clubhouse, where your only difficulty might be choosing between the spa or a cocktail. Their exclusive Clubhouses are more like luxury hotels than airport lounges. Some even have a spa. From the preflight champagne, to the meal service that’s customised to suit your body clock, you’ll be spoiled with luxury dining in Upper Class. During the flight, enjoy a generous leather seat that flips niftily, into one of the longest flat beds in any business class. An elegant in-flight bar and superb dining. The dedicated crew pamper to your every whim including that turning out your bed for you and your own wash bag and accompanying PJ’s. You can stretch out and sleep tight with their 33” wide flat beds which are super-comfy.
We personally experienced a relaxing, faultless flight both in Premium and Upper Class. The attention to detail was superb and most importantly the quality of food was fantastic.
If its not your usual thing to fly premium or upper I highly recommend both the value for money and fantastic start and end to a long haul trip with a no-stress and luxury start and finish to a holiday what more could you ask for? Thanks again to Virgin Atlantic, especially also to our attentive and happy steward Richard. For more information http://www.virgin-atlantic.com
