Different Types of Mehndi (Henna)
A mehndi night is the day a bride gets decorated for her soon be husband, the day she traditionally wears no makeup or jewellery and only has the intricate swirls of henna to make her look like a bride……or as a bride today calls it…a pre wedding party! There are so many different mehndi designs and types out there it is difficult to know what type of mehndi to be asking for!
I want those flowers with the squiggles….is that Arabic or is that Indian? Pakistani maybe?
Well fear not! The Bride Loves is here to help you along your henna filled path.
Arabic mehndi is one of the most popular designs amongst most culture. It is easy to create, master and duplicate within a short space of time. Arabic designs use very thick lines, and consist mainly of flowers and veins…
Indian mehndi designs are a lot thinner and more detailed than Arabic. They can easily take a few hours to complete and are the most varied, ranging from a large circle in the palm of your hand..
(Not sure we’d go for that over here..)
…to complex and intricate bridal mehndi designs.
These are a mix between complex Arabic and Indian designs
I’ll leave with a few of my favourite mehndi patterns for a bit of inspiration…happy henna-ing! Feel free to ask me for recommendations on artists or if you’d like me to show your work!
