Wedding venues – the perfect location?

One of the biggest parts (and expenses if it includes catering) of a wedding, is your venue. The sheer number of wedding venues out there can make life tricky. The decision of where to hold your perfect day is a big one, and unless you are lucky enough to already have a venue in mind, it can be a daunting decision to make. What sort of venue to go for, location, size, facilities…. agghhhh! one venue with a great history… St Pancras Renaissance, London Well, here is a little run down of questions to ask yourself before you even start looking, to aid you on your quest to wedding venue perfection. 1. Size. How big is your guest list? If you have 500 people coming, a boutique hotel might be more like sardines in a tin than caviar. 2. Civil ceremony? If you want to marry in the same place […]

So… the wedding dress….

It’s white, it’s huge, it’s….. hopefully your wedding cake. In all seriousness, the days of Diana-esque mountains of satin are no longer here. Never fear if voluminous is your style… there are plenty of options out there, although now there are also plenty of options for those who like be able to pee with ease whist wearing the most important dress of their lives. Now, I am definitely a less is more kind of girl, despite my love of all things that glitter (I swear I was a magpie in a former life) – but let me tell you a little story. When I chose my own wedding dress, many moons ago, I headed straight for a retailer that specialised in the simple is beautiful style. On picking out a gown, I was promptly told by the assistant that it wouldn’t suit; but she didn’t do so kindly. After leaving […]

The wedding budget question

Money makes the world go round. No, that would be science, but I see their point – money is definitely a useful commodity… especially when planning a wedding. I was reading a question on a bridal site the other night – ‘how do I organise my wedding budget!’ – and it got me thinking. Surely it isn’t that hard!? Well, actually, perhaps it is… if you over think it. You see, many people seem to try to plan the day first, and then wonder why the money runs out. It may not be the most romantic thing in the world, but money should be the first topic of discussion that you have when you get engaged. For some, that conversation may also involve family who would be happy to contribute. For others who either want to go it alone, or have no financial support, it’s a private affair. Either way […]

The Great British Wedding

My first post…. so I thought I would introduce myself. My name is Alex, and I am a wedding addict. Well, not quite, but close – you see, I am not a bride to be – I am already married. So why am I here, and what can I offer? I am a wedding planner, for one, and I also run a wedding website, which I launched at the end of last year… The Great British Wedding. The site has a blog of it’s own, but it is more of an article driven blog, rather than my musings – and while we encourage interaction via the site, emails and our social media pages, I wanted to share my own views on the industry – and on how to create your own dream wedding. So now you know who I am, I hope you will enjoy reading my take on the […]

Wedding blogs….

I remember when I got engaged. A little while ago now sadly…. (I need to stay off Pinterest as I really want to renew my vows just for some of the things that I have seen on there, but that is another story!). Like many brides to be I hurried to the nearest store to buy an arm full of glossies, and set to work planning my dream day. However, so started months of inspiration hunting and web surfing that Google would be proud of – and I struggled to find anything that matched the vision in my head. A star wars wedding? Hmmmm. Sat here today, I am happy to say that times have changed. Guess what? You are reading what I mean by that statement – a blog. While many blogs are still the musings (and occasional ramblings – sorry about that) of one or two individuals, many […]
