Something blue – what to do?

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue – we all know the saying, and most brides seem to actually follow it.  I really enjoyed finding innovative solutions when incorporating something old, new, borrowed and blue in my wedding. I hope the suggestions below can inspire some of you to think outside the box too!

Beyond garters and jewellery

It is quite common for brides to choose a piece of jewellery, a wedding garter or a flower in the bouquet as their something blue. However, there are other ways to go…

Dress. Nowadays, when personality is becoming more important than tradition, the dress itself can be blue – from the palest of pastel blues to deep navy. With a white dress, you can still add a touch of blue by embroidering your monogram and wedding date on the inside of the gown in a blue thread. This is my favourite choice for the something blue. It doesn’t have to show from the outside, but it will add a nice personal touch and could even be a nicer sentimental detail if a future bride ever inherits the dress.

Shoes. A lot of my friends have worn blue shoes at their weddings, a nice way to add a pop of colour to your outfit!  If you want to set yourself apart, why not opt to have sparkly blue soles? It is a subtle way of adding a stunning effect! Even more subtle is to wear blue-lined shoes – a great option if you are going for a more traditional look.

Makeup. Going for a smoky eye? Choose midnight blue eye shadow! Another, often forgotten, option is to have blue nails. Considering the many shades of blue out there, you should be able to find the perfect hue for you.

Perfume. Did you know that recently passed away fashion designer Oscar de la Renta created a perfume called ‘Something Blue’? Of course, perfume choice is deeply individual, but who knows, this perfume might smell divine on you! Why not try it out? Not to mention that you would be wearing something blue without actually adding a blue accessory– a stroke of genius if you ask me!

How about it, would you consider any of the above?
